CMA’s first SUV production next year "Jiwo effect" is gradually emerging.

Geely and Volvo’s "marriage" has entered the fifth year, and its "brotherly" synergistic effect is gradually expanding.

According to media reports, the first new car, which was born under the Compact Modular Architecture jointly developed by Geely and Volvo, will be rolled off the assembly line next year. According to Yang Xueliang, public relations director of Geely Automobile, the model will be a medium-sized SUV.

Last year, in the strategic transformation of returning to "one Geely", Geely encountered pains brought by the reform of marketing system and personnel adjustment. However, with the release of Borui, the first mid-to high-end car after its strategic transformation, and the launch of the first model under the CMA framework next year, Geely, which has been expected to see its own improvement after the acquisition of Volvo, is gradually taking shape.

First medium-sized SUV

According to reports, as the first model born in CMA modular architecture will be rolled off the assembly line next year, Geely is in full swing to build a new team. At the same time, Geely also intends to create a brand-new brand.

"What will be born in the CMA module architecture next year will be an A+ SUV." Yang Xueliang told Times Weekly that the models born in this module in the future will exist as high-end models of Geely, mainly competing with joint venture models.

As for whether these models will continue to hang Geely’s LOGO in the future, Yang Xueliang told the Times Weekly reporter that the company is still inconclusive. "Or it will have its own unique LOGO like Toyota’s flagship model Crown, but it will definitely not be as independent as Lexus."

In September 2013, Geely Automobile and Volvo Automobile, a subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, jointly established China Euro Vehicle Technology (hereinafter referred to as CEVT), and one of its key tasks is CMA new cars. The platform architecture will be derived from Geely and Volvo’s next-generation C-class (European standard, equal to China A-class or compact car) and B-class (European standard, equal to China A0-class or small car) models.

"CMA is an infrastructure module jointly developed by Geely and Volvo, and it is not a concept with FE platform and KC platform. Because the FE platform and KC platform are mainly based on Geely’s own development models, CMA is a brand new modular architecture. " Yang Xueliang told the Times Weekly reporter.

In fact, the modular universal platform has become the development trend of global car companies. A Volvo spokesman once said: "If you are creating a new architecture in the automobile industry, you need to build sustainable models, because this is a modern means to cut costs. An obvious example is the Volkswagen MQB platform, and of course we are doing similar things. "

Some insiders analyzed that the new modular architecture is universal and modular, which can form scale effect in R&D, testing and spare parts procurement, and it is a key means for car companies to cut costs and then enhance their competitiveness.

At the same time, according to Geely, the model born in CMA architecture in the future is equipped with a three-cylinder engine developed by Volvo and authorized by Geely. According to the data, the Drive-E three-cylinder 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine developed by Volvo has a maximum power of 180 HP, and its carbon dioxide emission fully meets the future Euro VII emission standard. It is reported that this model will be produced in Geely’s Taizhou factory.

After Geely launches the first model with CMA architecture next year, Volvo also plans to launch XC40 based on this modular architecture in 2018 to cope with competitors such as Audi Q3 and BMW X1. Subsequently, Volvo will launch a new generation of V40 hatchback and a new compact car S40 based on CMA platform. At the same time, Volvo also expects to shorten the product cycle as much as possible through the real sharing between SPA and CMA platform architectures.

Sales picked up.

Last year, after Geely announced the return of "One Geely", it also launched three new platform architectures, namely FE platform, KC platform and CMA modular architecture. It is reported that these brand-new vehicle platforms have outstanding product expansibility, comprehensive power system selection, high commonality of parts and components, and can be derived from new energy vehicles. In the future, the products produced by each platform will have various types such as hatchback, sedan, Cross and SUV.

For example, Borui, a mid-to high-end car recently launched, was born on the KC platform developed by Geely itself. According to An Conghui, CEO and President of Geely Group (participation, pictures and inquiry), in an interview with the media, the products of Geely KC platform in the future are all called Borui, and a series of products will be launched later. At the same time, the old products will be gradually integrated, such as the future King Kong series and Panda series, leaving only one series.

Similarly, under the framework of CMA module, Geely also expects to build higher-quality vehicles to cope with the competition from joint venture car companies. This is also the goal that Geely finally expects to achieve after the acquisition of Volvo. "In the future, Geely’s brand will be transformed from making cars that ordinary people can afford to making boutique cars for everyone." An Conghui said.

According to the latest February production and sales report released by Geely Automobile, Geely sold a total of 33,138 cars in February this year, up 54.7% from the same period last year. In the first two months of this year, Geely sold a total of 92,022 vehicles, a sharp increase of 67.8% compared with 54,850 vehicles in the same period of 2014.

To Geely’s delight, the sales volume of New Emgrand and EC7 reached 39,379 vehicles in the first two months of this year, a sharp increase of 105.2% compared with 19,189 vehicles in 2014, and it is still the largest sales model of Geely. At the same time, the cumulative sales volume of GX7, SX7 and GX9 in the first two months of this year was 12,134 vehicles, up 126% year-on-year. In the first two months, the sales volume of Vision sedan also reached 18,800. Geely, which has survived the transition stage, seems to have ushered in the best time of development.

Borui, which will be listed in April, is also highly anticipated by Geely. According to the plan, Borui’s sales volume is expected to reach 10,000 vehicles from 2,000 vehicles and 5,000 vehicles per month. Although there have been no successful examples of independent brands in the breakthrough war of mid-to high-end cars, Geely, which intends to start this transformation war with Borui, is full of confidence.

With the production of CMA-based vehicles coming off the assembly line next year, it is worth looking forward to whether Geely, which has reached a certain level in quality, can gain sales and reputation in the highly competitive China auto market.
