At present, four L3-class self-driving vehicles have been put into operation for line joint debugging test, and it is expected to be put into operation before the end of the year.

On the morning of the same day, a Yutong "Black King Kong" pure electric bus slowly pulled into the parking spot of Ping ‘an Avenue in the East Third Ring Road. The appearance of bright gray body, full-screen front and integrated LED headlights reflected the sense of modern technology everywhere.

According to the on-board technician, the bus put into use on the automatic driving line is equipped with an intelligent network connection system, which can realize L3-level automatic driving.

The so-called L3 automatic driving means that the driver no longer needs hands and feet to stand by, and the car can complete all driving operations independently, but the driver still needs to keep his attention in order to cope with possible situations that artificial intelligence can’t cope with at any time.

In the test ride experience, after the bus started slowly, the driver switched to the automatic driving mode and freed his hands. The top news reporter noticed that the vehicle is equipped with three electronic display screens, which respectively show the real-time monitoring of the bus cab, the integrated road information of the bus AI system and the physical model of digital twin information. A series of automatic driving operations of the above buses can be directly seen on the big screen inside the car.

In terms of vehicle speed and comfort adjustment, the technician introduced: "In the automatic driving mode, the fastest speed of the bus can reach 50 km/h. During driving, the vehicle will calculate and control the speed according to information such as road conditions and traffic lights, and the sense of frustration is greatly reduced compared with that in the manual driving mode."

Tang Bo, deputy director of the maintenance department of Zhengzhou Public Transport Group, said that compared with the self-driving bus line 1 in Zhengdong New District, the self-driving bus line in the East Third Ring Road has been significantly improved in terms of signal priority system, blind spot detection system and high-precision positioning system.

It is understood that in November 2021, the Ministry of Transport issued a notice and decided to organize the pilot work of autonomous driving and intelligent shipping pilot applications.

In August, 2022, the "Zhengzhou BRT Autopilot Application Pilot Project" recommended by Henan Provincial Department of Transportation, led by Zhengzhou Public Transport Group Co., Ltd., and participated by the Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport and Yutong Bus Co., Ltd. was selected into the "List of the First Pilot Projects of Intelligent Transportation Application (Autopilot and Intelligent Shipping Direction)" of the Ministry of Transport.

According to the construction goal, before December 2023, Zhengzhou BRT pilot application will be set up on the 24.5-kilometer bus line of the East Extension Line of North Third Ring Road-East Third Ring Road-East Extension Line of South Third Ring Road, with 24 stations along the way and 40 self-driving BRT vehicles, with a cumulative mileage of not less than 160,000 kilometers and a service of not less than 20,000 passengers.

At the same time, the project will form a summary report on the pilot work, and no less than three standards, specifications or technical guidelines will be formed around the operation scenario of autonomous driving BRT, which will provide reference for the construction and operation management of autonomous driving BRT system in the industry.
